From Copy Monitoring to Taco Technologies

Leaving our old brand behind

It wasn’t really until I scrapped the last of the vinyl signage of Copy Monitoring off our window in our office that it really sunk in that we are leaving our old branding behind. This is a name that I have heard since I was in school when my dad, James, first started Copy Monitoring Systems in New Zealand in 1995.

The idea of changing the business name has been floating around for a few years, but the integrity that the brand has stood for in the market is something we wrestled with letting go of. James laid the foundations of a strong trusting brand that our partners identify with. However, as time progressed we realised that a rebrand was inevitable.

The idea of changing the business name has been floating around for a few years, but the integrity that the brand has stood for in the market is something we wrestled with letting go of. James laid the foundations of a strong trusting brand that our partners identify with. However, as time progressed we realised that a rebrand was inevitable.

The primary reason for changing the brand is to be in line with the evolution of the businesses identity. For a long time we did pretty much one thing, copy (& print) monitoring, and we do that really well. Along with our key supply partners PaperCut and Cartadis we were able to grow from a small business in New Zealand to spanning across the APAC region with a team of almost 20 people across Asia and the Pacific. With the undeniable truth that the MFD market is changing we want to ensure that we evolve with this too. Each day I wake up with a passion for technology and desire to connect and streamline business processes. I believe things should be automated so people have more free time, and that when we work together we are better.

Uniquely placed as both hardware and software distributor, we’re the largest PaperCut and Elatec distributor in the region, and we are the exclusive Cartadis distributor for Asia Pacific. While other businesses have been cutting back in the economy we’re committed to ensuring strong future growth opportunities for our channel partners.

We have invested heavily back into the business by moving to a larger premises in Sydney to allow our hardware stock holding to grow, this will ensure we offer competitive pricing and faster shipping, we also hired an in-house development team to build and develop two products we’ve brought to market

The first is Cilantro, this essential PaperCut MF add-on product allows connectivity of a range of third party software and hardware products to PaperCut MF, such as payment gateways, automatic coffee machines, legal and ERP softwares and so much more. The second is Channel Connect, a dealer / reseller portal product that allows distributors across any industry to quickly and efficiently build their own online quotation and ordering tool. We took a good hard look out there for a reseller portal, and we couldn’t find anything we liked, so we built one!

We’re continuing to invest in our partnership with PaperCut too, by co-developing training programs for our partners, and building Cilantro, we’re confident that our Partners will benefit by being able to offer their clients a really great PaperCut experience.

So why Taco? It’s a question I’ve been asked a lot! When you’re next making tacos (maybe on a Tuesday?) step back and look down, all those ingredients work just fine by themselves, lettuce, tomato, cheese, beef, coriander etc, but when you combine all those things inside a taco something magical happens. They become greater than the sum of ingredients. That’s what we try to deliver – PaperCut, Cartadis, Elatec, KPAX, Cilantro, Bio-Buddy, all these things work just fine by themselves, but when you combine them through Taco, you’ll get something great.
